Artist Statement: My overall intent is to make ceramics that speak to your love for Nature.
Landscapes are often woven into our memories and sense of self. As children we were drawn to get our hands dirty, to throw off our shoes (and pants) and jump into a stream, to stop mid-play and carefully observe an insect, to run out into the desert or woods and explore, collecting special rocks/seeds/leaves along the way to keep as souvenirs.
By diving into our natural surroundings we learned so much about ourselves and our place in nature. We are not separate, we belong there. Many of us remember and want to return as often as possible. I make pottery that serves as a personal memento for experiences in nature that have made an impression on me.
Perhaps a bud vase made to resemble a rock or a mug adorned with a miniature insect/landscape can serve as a tiny reminder, while you sip your morning coffee, to make time to head outdoors.
