My intent is to make ceramics that speak to your love for the outdoors.
Landscapes are often woven into our memories and sense of self. As children we were drawn to get our hands dirty, to throw off our shoes (and pants) and jump into a stream, to stop mid-play and carefully observe an insect, to run out into the desert or woods and explore, collecting special rocks/seeds/leaves along the way to keep as souvenirs. By diving into our natural surroundings we learned so much about ourselves and our place in nature. We belong there. Many of us remember and want to return as often as possible.
I make pottery that serves as a personal memento for experiences in nature that have made an impression on me.
Perhaps a bud vase made to resemble a rock or a cup adorned with a miniature landscape can serve as a tiny reminder, while you sip your morning coffee, to make time to head outdoors.

Seedling Clayworks is a one woman business and small batch pottery studio. Each piece is carefully hand made and decorated with sculpted/carved/hand painted elements. Because of the time-consuming nature of these pieces and small scale of this studio, only a limited number of items are made and offered during shop updates.
The pandemic has altered my normal working hours. Now that my two children are home 24/7 I am unable to produce as much as usual. Although I am continuing to work, it is at a snail's pace so shop updates will be less frequent. I appreciate your patience and understanding during this unusual time.

I grew up in the harsh and distinctly beautiful Sonoran Desert: an arid, prickly landscape just an hour north of Mexico, inhabited by peculiar animals and plant life, surrounded by mountains that abut a vast, almost perpetually sunny blue sky. My Mom, who is a ceramic artist and lover of nature, took my brother and I camping and hiking as children, encouraging us to explore and to be enchanted by our natural environment. It's no surprise that the beauty of landscapes and nature are themes I am compelled to express in my ceramics. I have a bachelors degree in fine arts (painting+illustration) and a masters degree in landscape architecture from the University of Arizona. My mother taught me the basics of how to throw pottery in 2012 and I've been practicing ever since. |
Feel free to follow my journey and experiments in clay on Instagram. This is a good place to see the wide variety of pottery I make, what I'm currently working on and some behind the scenes photos.
