TREES IN FOUR SEASONS
Having lived most of my life in the Sonoran Desert, it probably seems silly for me to offer anything featuring snow or autumn leaves. But I did spend four years in Philadelphia where I was in awe of the distinct seasonal changes so common to a majority of the world.
Trees seem to represent these changes best: the soft pink and white of cherry blossoms in Spring--the vibrant, verdant fullness of summer, the fiery hues of a Japanese Maple in Autumn and the bare, sculptural form of a deciduous tree's branches against the snowy backdrop of Winter.
Each cup, vase or plant pot in this series has been wheel thrown, the ground foundation sculpted, the tree trunk and branches carved. The glaze has been painted/stippled onto the exterior of the cup or vase using a brush. No two trees are the exactly same.
